Meeting September 18, 2009 - Ken Johnson

"The Prophetic History of the Maya"

The Prophetic History of the Maya will address the so-called "end date" of 2012. In contrast to other speakers, Ken has turned away from inventing his own interpretations of the data and focused his attention on the actual Mayan prophetic texts known as the "Books of the Jaguar Prophet," compiled by the Maya during the Spanish Conquest in an attempt to preserve what still remained of their ancient culture. Now that the majority of Mayan hieroglyphic texts can be read, it is perfectly clear that the Maya achieved their unique vision of human history through the use of techniques which are perfectly comprehensible to any contemporary Western astrologer.

Meeting September 19, 2009 - Ken Johnson

"The Daykeeper's Workshop"

The Daykeeper's Workshop focuses upon the use of the Mayan Calendar as an instrument of astrology, divination, and myth. Drawn from traditions still practiced among the contemporary Maya, the material includes the myths and archetypes of the Mayan Calendar's twenty day-signs, the use of the day-signs as an oracle or form of divination, and the method used among Mayan Calendar shamans to construct a Mayan horoscope based upon the day-sign of one's birth.

The material in this class is not based upon systems such as "Dreamspell," the "Calleman Matrix," or any other modern Western inventions which purport to be Mayan but which are in fact the creation of their authors. The tradition embodied in the workshop is as received from contemporary teachers of Mayan Spirituality such as don Rigoberto Chanchavac, don Alejandro Oxlaj, don Adrelino Sac and don Roberto Poz.

Getting to Know Ken Johnson

Kenneth Johnson holds a B.A. in Comparative Religions from California State University Fullerton. He obtained his Master of Arts in Eastern Studies (with an emphasis in Classical Sanskrit) from St. John's College, Santa Fe. He is the author of numerous books and magazine articles, including the well-known Mythic Astrology series (with Arielle Guttman) and Mansions of the Moon: The Lost Zodiac of the Goddess.

Jaguar Wisdom: An Introduction to the Mayan Calendar, is the only currently available popular book written with the assistance of contemporary Mayan Calendar diviners. John Major Jenkins says, "this book will guide the sincere into a deeper understanding of the Maya cosmos," while Carl Calleman writes, "it fills a significant gap for anyone interested in Mayan astrology and divination."
