FRIDAY NIGHT Lecture - 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Chart Rulers From Hellenistic Astrology
Modern astrology generally recognizes the ruler of the Ascendant as the chart ruler. However, this is but a remnant of the original Hellenistic doctrine, which recognized, determined and evaluated several different planets that filled specialized leadership roles and responsibilities. This lecture explains what these different positions and their responsibilities were, how to determine which planets in your chart take on these positions, and how well these planets fulfill their rulership roles.
Bring your natal chart with you as Doug will provide a worksheet that will help you determine your various chart rulers. If at all possible, print your chart with the Whole Sign house system as this is the original house system used by horoscopic astrologers. If you prefer the Sidereal Zodiac over the Tropical Zodiac, feel free to use it.
SATURDAY Seminar - 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Preliminary Natal Analysis From Hellenistic Astrology
Contrary to some modern astrological perception, not all planets in a given chart function and express equally. Some have an easier time reaching their goals and fulfilling their particular agenda, while others find their best efforts blocked, and so must reach their goals and destinations via less obvious channels of expression. From Robert Schmidt, Project Hindsight and Hellenistic Astrology however, we have a structured, systematic method of evaluating the relative merits and disadvantages of each planet in a horoscope.
In Saturday's workshop Doug will explain and illustrate these planetary conditions that affect their expression. Most of these conditions (i.e. rulership, retrogrades, angularity, cardinality) you will already be familiar with. Some astrological factors, such as motivating triplicity rulers, Lot of Fortune houses, sect, house joys, etc., might be less familiar to you depending on your astrological specialty.
As on Friday night, please bring your horoscope (using Whole Sign houses; if you're adventurous bring a second copy of your chart using Porphyry Houses) so that you can see how these conditions apply to your chart. Find out why you instinctively prefer certain planets in your chart, while viewing others with aversion and reluctance.
If anyone would like their chart to be used as a class example, please send your birth information to Doug at noblehorse@cox.net.
Getting to Know Douglas Noblehorse
Doug has been studying astrology for 42 years, after a Reader's Digest article piqued his interest, providing him with a lifelong passion and obsession. Rooted in the psychological school of astrology, he counts Dane Rudhyar, Steven Arroyo and Betty Lundsted among his earliest initial influences. Currently, he is studying Hellenistic Astrology as reformulated by Robert Schmidt, with the ultimate goal of melding the old with the new. Doug is currently the Education Director for ASA.
Doug maintains an avocational astrological practice, as evidenced by his active 5th house. You can find his website at http://www.quincunxastrology.com.
